Technique Expansion

Technique Expansion Community Projects focus on transferring a particular skill set from our performance work to a local community. When conducted with the acrobatic stiltasana skill set this is a highly physical and challenging work that can transform the physicality of the participants. Our Technique Expansion projects can have Acrobatic Stilts, Butoh Dance, Contact Improvisation, Physical Theater and Vocal Action or any desired mix of our transferable skills set as the focus for the community project.

The “Universal Forum of Cultures” project illustrates our Technique Expansion Community Project

During The Carpetbag Brigade’s time in residency at the Universal Forum of Cultures, we taught our acrobatic stilt work and theatrical style to 20 local participants. We created choreographic performances specifically for two groups of local actors, dancers, and circus artists based on our own performances and then integrated them into our repertory performances creating “grande” versions of our work. These performances each featured five Carpetbag Brigade members and ten performers from Monterrey, Mexico. They became a living display of the cross cultural collaboration that occurred at the Cultural Forum in Monterrey, Mexico
