A cross-cultural collaboration between
The Carpetbag Brigade (USA) & Nemcatacoa Teatro (Colombia)
Dios de Adrenalina is a cross-cultural site-flexible outdoor performance project utilizing the art of acrobatic stiltwalking to illuminate undercurrents in the geophysical and economic relationship between the USA and Colombia.
The Carpetbag Brigade Physical Theaterand the company Nemcatacoa of Bogota, Colombia both specialize in acrobatic stiltwalking and outdoor performance work. Dios de Adrenalina operate as a collaborative project between the two theater companies in which they exchange work methods, address the economies of drugs and guns between their two countries, and present their collaborative work results in their respective countries.
In 2005 The Carpetbag Brigade and Nemcatacoa witnessed and became fascinated with each other’s acrobatic stilt performance work in Bogota, Colombia at the Al Aire Puro Festival. In 2010 their director’s participated in The Carpetbag Brigade’s Stiltasana Summer Seminar in California and began to envision together a cross cultural performance art project for the open air that could be performed in their respective countries at festivals and small community gatherings.
Illuminating the undercurrents and dynamics of globalization Dios de Adrenalina examines the collectivizing of trauma through hidden economic relationships and the impact of corntraband commerce on the human nervous system and the commodification and re-cycling of resulting conflicts into digestible pop culture.
Dios de Adrenalina is a kinetic survey of the impulses that bind us to our humanity and a testimony to the ability of culture to transform perspective and deepen understanding.
Our aim is to use this thematic point of departure as a means for deepening our understanding of the present primary economic relationship between our respective cultures. By using these themes as a pool of material to artistically reflect on in a cross-cultural artistic laboratory we seek to transform our limited perspective toward one another and share our results with the general public of our countries through the collaborative production.
The exchange between The Carpetbag Brigade and Nemcatacoa consist of sharing their companies unique vocabularies of acrobatic stiltwalking, directing each other’s performers, creating tasks for the other company and synthesizing the created material into a performance.
